1. How do I enroll my child at WCPS?
We have a registration process that involves filling out an application
for your child/ren and turning it in at the school. We accept applications
for the upcoming summer program and upcoming school year beginning on
a certain date in January (usually the second Friday and Saturday) through
the following summer and into the fall. You may download an application
from this website and bring it to the school or mail it to the school
with the application fee attached. We will not accept applications prior
to the specified date in January.
2. How does the registration process work?
See the "Application Forms and Info"
page on this website.
3. What are the hours of the preschool?
The preschool is open from 9:30-2:30. Parents may bring their child as
early as 9:20 a.m. and must pick their child up by 2:30. If a parent is
late picking up, they will be charged an extra fee after the 2:30 dismissal
time. Specific times for each age group are listed on an information page
in the application portion of this website.
4. What is the format for the school calendar each year?
We follow a fairly standard 9 month school year calendar. We begin the
school year the last week of August (depending on when Labor Day is) and
end the school year the second or third week in May. The school year will
be approximately 38 weeks long. We have a 2 week Christmas/New Year break
and a week of Spring Break (usually the third week in March). We observe
all of the major holidays that occur during the nine month school year.
We will have an additional 2 or 3 days off from school for staff training.
We schedule our monthly staff meetings to be held at 12:45 on varying
days of the week. We dismiss school at 12:30 on those days. All the pertinent
dates for the school year are published each year and sent out to parents
during the summer and placed in the school directory each fall.
5. How much is the tuition for the preschool?
The tuition is listed on the application portion of our website. Tuition
is based on the amount of time a child will be here (2, 3, 4, or 5 days/week)
in addition to the age group the child is enrolled in for the year. The
summer tuition is the same for all children, based on the amount of days
the child attends.
6. Explain the summer program?
We have a separate program for the preschool in the summer. It is a shorter
program which parents may apply for at the same time they apply for the
school year program. We do require a separate application due to different
days children may attend and the possibility of different staff with classes
in the summer. We are open on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for a total
of 6 weeks in the middle of the summer. The dates usually depend on the
date the school year ends. We usually have the six weeks starting the
3rd or 4th week of June through the month of July. The hours are the same
for the summer program, 9:30-2:30. We use the summer to transition children,
from the age group they have been in during the past school year, into
the next age group.
7. What is the teacher/child ratio in the preschool?
Our teacher/child ratio is based on Department of Human Services guidelines
concerning the amount of children/teacher in each age group. We also adhere
to guidelines concerning the amount of children that are able to be in
a room based on square footage in the classroom. Our ratios are listed
on the information page of the application portion of our website.
8. Is there a Christian component to the preschool curriculum?
By official action of the boards of Woodmont Christian Preschool and Woodmont
Christian Church, an emphasis on Christian faith development will become
an optional part of a normal preschool week. The way this will be incorporated
into the current structure will be through the offering of an optional
chapel service once a week for the 4 and 5 year olds. It will be at the
beginning of a school day and children will be invited to share in a chapel
service in Woodmont's sanctuary led by one of the ministry staff.
Family members are welcome to attend with their children. This will be
a 15-minute service with Bible stories, singing and a short children's
sermon.
Families not wishing to participate may bring their children to school
following the chapel service.
There will be no changes in curriculum focus and Bible instruction will
not be a part of your children's daily routine. The only change will
be in the offering of an optional chapel event.
Two of the factors helping us come to this decision were the requests
for this kind of emphasis by several families already in the program and
also to recognize the fact that the preschool is an extension of Woodmont
Christian Church's ministry to the community.
